Praxis Yoga is a teacher driven studio offering a qualitative approach to the practice of mindful physical movement and moving meditation. We feel that all practices of skilled physical movement--be it yoga, pilates, dance, cross training, gymnastics, acrobatics-- fill a medicinal need for the body, mind, and soul.
Teacher driven? Simply put, this means we let good teachers offer good classes.
What makes a good teacher?
Our teachers are committed to physical practice and let their passion shine through.
We hire and cultivate instructors who are highly experienced (a minimum
of 5 years teaching experience is required to work here), widely educated across physical disciplines, are knowledgeable, and who consistently present their own successful quality of style. We at Praxis Yoga believe a practice of mindful physical movement is key for overall mental and physical health of all. We strive to make skilled physical practices available to all bodies, backgrounds, and abilities.
Yoga is a physiological technology originating in India centuries ago. This technology was at one time deeply intertwined with religious practices. We at Praxis Yoga acknowledge that it is largely through the atrocities of colonialism and imperialism that such technologies are now so prevalent across the West. Praxis Yoga teaches practices rooted in, but not necessarily attached to, these spiritual practices. We acknowledge the privilege that allows us easy and daily access to this technology, and wish to work on dismantling the inequities that deny others that privilege.
Praxis Yoga acknowledges that the land on which we reside is the homeland and unceded territory of the Nuuchui (Ute) people as well as the 48 Tribal Nations that are historically tied to Colorado. We aim to accurately recognize the historical truths of our region, including the Sand Creek Massacre during which more than 200 Cheyenne and Arapahoe people were killed in order to claim these lands. By acknowledging this history, we wish to demonstrate our commitment towards ending oppressive historical narratives. Praxis yoga values those native cultures who lent their beliefs and influences to the region, gathered at the base of Tava or “Sun Mountain,” now called Pikes Peak. We honor their influence as essential to our community.
Since I started with Praxis Yoga, my significant knee injury, from many years ago, is now pain free and more flexible and stronger that it has ever been. I have always guarded the knee as it has always been painful. Taryn showed me safe and easy ways to get the knee to work properly. I am so happy that I can squat, kneel and run without pain. It has changed my life. I LOVE YOGA!!!!
I always wanted to try yoga, but I was too afraid to try it. It seemed like something only perfect girls with perfect bodies did. Not big girls. What if I couldn't move correctly? What if I couldn't do the poses that the other girls did? One day I thought "Fuck this. I want to at least TRY!". I have always admired Taryn and liked her attitude and sense of humor. I contacted her and asked her if I could try a private class. She said absolutely. When I showed up, I explained that I had zero idea of what to expect. She assured me that this was okay and we began our first (of many) sessions. She made me feel so incredibly comfortable not only around her, but IN MY OWN SKIN! I was never embarrassed if I wasn't very flexible at first, she cheered me on every single time. I cannot tell you what a transformational experience it was to learn to trust, accept and care for my body. I will never be able to thank her enough.
